Yaki Object I is a sculptural light object made by hand.

Charred wood forms its dark outer body, polished copper gathers and returns the light within. Each piece carries its own number and a materially unique surface shaped by real fire.

Yaki Object I introduces more than light. Its scale, silhouette and warm reflection create a focal point that changes how the room is perceived, both when illuminated and when still.

Light in motion.

Copper planes reflect warm light between them, creating changing rays and gradients across the surrounding surfaces. The effect is atmospheric rather than functional - light intended to shape the room, not simply illuminate it.

The wood is charred by hand in real fire, drawing from the tradition of yakisugi. Burning reveals a deep, irregular surface that records the process and ensures no two pieces are materially identical.

Each piece is hand stamped with a unique serial number. A collectible object, permanent and one of a kind.

We remember every piece we've made. Three weeks of work and attention go into every object. The piece is built, charred, finished, assembled and inspected by hand before its individual number is stamped.

0. What materials are used?

Yaki Object I is made from regionally sourced pine and polished copper. The wood is charred by hand and sealed with multiple layers of protective wax. The copper is finished to reduce fingerprints and unwanted oxidation.

1 . Does the charred surface stain or brake?

No. The charred surface is sealed with five layers of protective wax, making it stable and clean to the touch under normal indoor use.

2. Does it smell like burnt wood?

No. The scent created during charring fades during the making and finishing process. The completed object does not carry a burnt smell.

3. How much light does it give?

Yaki Object I produces warm ambient light at 2200 K. It is designed to shape atmosphere and act as a visual focal point rather than serve as the room's primary task lighting.

4. Will the copper change over time?

The copper is finished to reduce fingerprints and unwanted oxidation. Its tone may deepen subtly over time, but it is not intended to turn green under normal indoor conditions.

5. How long does a piece take to create

Each piece takes approximately three weeks to make, followed by around one week for international delivery, depending on destination.

6. Do you give any guarantee?

The sculptural body is covered by Yaki's lifetime guarantee. Replaceable electrical components are covered for two years. Full conditions are set out in the Terms of Sales.

7. How is international delivery handled?

Yaki ships internationally using established delivery partners. Each object is packed for protected transport, and Yaki takes responsibility for resolving verified transport damage in accordance with the Terms of Sales.

8. How is each piece authenticated?

Each piece is stamped with its individual number. It is accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity carrying the same number.

9. Do you accept commissions?

Yes. Yaki accepts a limited number of private and architectural commissions each year. Visit the Contact page to tell us about your project.

10. Is the design suitable for outdoors?

No. Yaki Object I is not designed for outdoor conditions, such as rain.
